Kalemtrashlar

Kalemtrash (plural kalemtrashlar) is an Ottoman little knife especially made to cut the calligraphy reed or calamus (kalem). It has a strong and short stainless steel blade mounted on a long handle which must be firmly grasped in the whole hand for a perfect and precise effect. It's usually a precious and costly tool, entirely made by hand and very rare nowadays.

The short blade coming out of the handle is in fact a one-piece steel part covered by the shimshir (box wood) handle for a most solid tool
